Trigger Finger
Trigger finger is a common condition that affects how your fingers move. It happens when a finger or thumb gets locked in a bent position and makes a painful popping or clicking almost like pulling and releasing a trigger when you try to move it. This can feel uncomfortable and sometimes painful. The condition involves the tendons, which are the strong cords that connect muscles to bones and allow your fingers to bend and straighten.
Each tendon is surrounded by a protective sheath that helps it glide smoothly during movement. When the tendon or its sheath becomes irritated or inflamed, it can thicken or develop small nodules. This makes it harder for the tendon to move through the sheath causing trigger finger.
Trigger finger can affect any finger, including the thumb. It may start gradually and become more noticeable over time. Some people experience mild symptoms that come and go, while others may have more persistent problems that interfere with daily activities.
