Elbow Arthritis
Elbow arthritis is a condition where the cartilage in the elbow joint breaks down over time. Cartilage is the smooth, rubbery tissue that covers the ends of bones and helps them move easily against each other. When this protective layer wears away, the bones begin to rub together which leads to pain, stiffness, and reduced movement in the elbow.
The elbow is a hinge joint made up of three bones: the upper arm bone and the two forearm bones that allow you to bend, straighten, and rotate your arm. Because it is used in many daily activities, any damage to the joint can affect simple tasks like lifting, reaching, or even turning a doorknob.
Elbow arthritis is less common than arthritis in larger joints like the knees or hips, but it can still have a big impact on quality of life. It often develops slowly and may worsen over time if not managed properly.
