Hip Labral Tears
What is a hip labral tear?
A hip labral tear is an injury to the ring of cartilage that surrounds the socket of the hip joint. This ring, called the labrum, acts like a seal that helps keep the ball of the hip joint in place while also providing cushioning and stability. When the labrum is torn, the smooth movement of the hip can be disrupted, leading to pain, stiffness, or a feeling that the joint is catching or locking. Hip labral tears can occur gradually over time or suddenly due to an injury, and they affect people of all ages, from athletes to those with more sedentary lifestyles.
